In all of my gold items, I use 14k gold fill. But what is gold filled you may ask? Let me use this this visual to help guide you.
Gold filled is where a process of heat and pressure, bonds 14k gold to the base metal, usually brass or a mixture of metals. Gold filled, by weight, is actually 5% gold whereas gold plating is 0.05%. The advantage of gold filled is that it has a thicker layer of gold on the outside rather than vermeil or plating, which makes it tarnish resistant and waterproof.
I use 14k gold filled so that it is durable and yet more affordable than solid gold. All of my 14k gold filled items are hypoallergenic and nickel free.
I hope you've learned something new! Be sure to check out the new gold filled items I added yesterday here.
Lots of love,
Simone xx
